Philippine maritime authorities on Wednesday reiterated that they would not abide by China’s attempts to “normalize” its acts of intimidation in the West Philippine Sea by deploying “The Monster,” its biggest coast guard vessel, to the area.

“You have to look at the presence of the monster ship as a reaction to our legislated archipelagic sea-lane and maritime zones act,” Rear Adm. Roy Vincent Trinidad, the Philippine Navy spokesperson for the West Philippine Sea, told the Inquirer.

Senatorial aspirant Chavit Singson withdrew from the senatorial race in the upcoming midterm elections.

Singson, a businessman and former Ilocos Sur governor, went to the Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Thursday to officially file his withdrawal from his Senate bid.

The benchmark Philippine Stock Exchange Index (PSEi) shed 0.49 percent, or 36.67 points, to close at 7,400.33.

State prosecutors have recommended the filing of money laundering charges on 62 counts against dismissed Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo in connection with the operations of businesses owned by her family, which funded the purchase of parcels of land that later became the site for a Philippine offshore gaming operator (Pogo) hub, the Department of Justice (DOJ) said on Wednesday.

In a 49-page resolution, government lawyers said that at least five companies were involved in the “grand money laundering activities,” including QJJ Farm Inc., QSeed Genetics Inc., real estate company Baofu Land Development Inc. and Pogo hub Hongsheng Gaming Technology Inc., later renamed as Zun Yuan Technology Inc.
